making time for these last days of summer

August 02, 2011

august break
Oh my word! Is it August already? The summer has flown and we have fallen very swiftly into an extremely laid back mode of (in)activity - not that there's anything wrong with that, mind. Our intentions were good but many things we promised have not yet manifested. And so I feel, at this midway point, it is time to take charge and squeeze what we can from the time that remains... *grin*

Therefore over the coming weeks, what was sort of happening already on 'le blog', will be more so this month and there will be two key things occurring in this space:

Firstly, I am going to be continuing to post updates on my Index-Card-a-Day project. This kind of fell behind a little while focusing on preparing my birthday blog party, but I am all eager to pick up that gauntlet once more for the final weeks of a fun daily art routine.

Intertwined with those posts I am happy to say I shall be participating in The August Break, 2011 'project'. You may have already heard of it on the grapevine, or even signed up to participate yourself. In case and if not, then let me illuminate...

Organised by Susannah Conway of Unravelling fame (another round of which starts next month), the idea is simple:

"share one photo a day on your blog... or whenever you feel moved to share. Using any camera... with or without words... for the whole of August. No pressure: just looking at August through your camera lens as a way to be more present this summer, and have a little break from the pressures and expectations of regular blogging... There are NO rules! Just sunshine, a bit of fun, and lots of lovely photos to look at..."

Easy peasy, right?

I really like this idea. So far our 3rd Canadian summer has not been so very warm or sunny, so any encouragement to unplug and step outside to enjoy what good weather we do get before the turn of autumn comes, is all to the good. Plus, now I have my lovely new Instax Mini I am eager to start playing and integrating it's photographic fruits into my regular image mix. I am excited for this new learning curve to unfold *grin* Fun!

Another similar idea which Anzouya brought to my attention (thank you!) and have been tossing about is the '30 Day Photo Challenge', from which I may cherry-pick ideas for both ICAD and August Break.

And then of course, I might just throw in the odd 'other' topic post depending on my persuasion...

Basically, this is going to be a very laid back blog these next few weeks, at the end of which I will be all recharged and raring to go with a whole bunch of fun ideas as we go into my favourite season of the year. Does that sound okay?

For those who may have missed it this weekend, just a quick reminder that my happy birthday-blogiversary reader appreciation giveaway ends Thursday at midnight (PST). Winners will be announced right here on Friday! Thank you again and good luck!
