read with me in the salon

the power of meaning

Come read with me...

My latest venture The G*U Salon opened earlier this week with a radio interview from Emily Esfahani Smith about her book, The Power of Meaning: Crafting a Life that Matters.

In it, she explores how we can craft richer and more satisfying lives through the pursuit of meaning rather than happiness. It is a topic that has come up for me through my exploration of managing an over-thinking, monkey-minded brain that can easily fall into debilitating states of anxiety.

In answer to my desire to not just read a book but to connect with others of the same and exchange discoveries and insights in the hopes of unravelling things, The G*U Salon came about as a means through which to facilitate this beyond the confines of my geographic locality.

A hybrid between classic salon and book club, The G*U Salon is a virtual discussion forum that explores ideas across the spheres of philosophy, psychology, creativity and new renaissance life design. Hosted once a quarter around the solstices and equinoxes, its purpose is to support the journey of self and personal expansion.

Introducing the subject of the book with an interview from the author, I have planned both in-forum live text-chats midway and month’s end group video meet-ups to wrap-up our studies.

Participation is free barring acquisition of the book in question and members can involve themselves to the level they desire. The only caveat is that, just as with live, in-person salons would be, chats and meet-ups are not recorded and thus preserve that in-person, real-time experience.

If the idea of a virtual book salon sounds like something you would like to explore and try out, even if the book is something you have already read, I would love to welcome you in The Salon and have you join our quarterly conversations.
